OCR: AUTO BATTERIES The CR Ratings list the tested BRAND MODEL (S) in groups, according to the manufacturers' specified cold-cranking amps (CCA). A CCA level is specified for every car by its manufacturer. The specification should be met, but buying a battery that's far above the specified level is usually unnecessary. Within groups, they're listed in order of overall SCORE, based mainly on starting performance, with reserve-capacity performance also considered. Those scores, in turn, reflect the proportion of samples that met their claims for CCA and reserve capacity. Scores are on a scale of 0 to 100: 81 to 100 is excellent, 61 to 80 is very good, 41 to 60 is good, 21 to 40 is fair, O to 20 is poor. Within groups, models with identical scores are listed in order of increasing price. Batteries are classified by group SIZEs, based on dimensions and other physical characteristics. Size 24, the one CR tried to find for each brand, is the most popular size. Size 26/70 is a common altemative, and generally fits into size 24 battery compartments. Other sizes in a given brand may not perform similarly, especially if their CCA and reserve capacity differ from those for the tested battery. TYPE indicates maintenance requirements: None means it is a maintenance-free battery that doesn't require water refills. Low means it is a low-maintenance battery that requires
